THREE MEN IN A BOAT – to say nothing of the dog by Jerome K. Jerome
Directed by TONY CRAVEN
In his autobiography My Life and Times, Jerome wrote: “I did not intend to write a funny book. I did not know I was a humourist …” What an understatement! Three Men in a Boat has become one of the most loved comic novels in the English language. The antics which director Tony Craven and Brian contrived with only three chairs and a straw hat have made it the funniest and liveliest show in Brian’s repertoire. It always was, and indeed remains, a top favourite with his Freiburg audiences!
Their unanimous agreement that they are all overworked and in need of a rest, results in three London chums, George, Harris and J. (to say nothing of the dog, Montmorency), rowing up the Thames one hot summer at the end of the 19th century. It is a voyage of mishaps and hilarious adventures: Harris and party get lost in the Hampton Court Maze, Montmorency has a minor contretemps with a disreputable-looking cat, J. inadvertently takes a dip in the river, George brings along a banjo.
All great fun and nonsense!
